  We don't celebrate holidays because ........

  i just can't stomach the time wasted in meetings and in the literature about the jw stand on holidays.. we try to explain why we don't celebrate christmas, mothers day, halloween, thanksgiving day, etc, etc, etc.. yet in reality, other than the memorial and anniversaries, we don't celebrate anything, regardless of the origins of the holiday.

  if a new holiday was created encouraging people to be nice to each other, we still wouldn't celebrate it ... it would be worldly!!!.

  all the time and energy put into determining the origins of certains days is just a waste of time.

  fredyi! You've hit it on the head, oh negative one! The WTBTS doesn't want you to spend your money on anything but the pedo fund...a couple bucks for a card that would brighten someone's day? Heck no, put it in the box at the back of the hall. And brotherly love? Nah, why would you want to celebrate the day a family memeber or friend was born? Who cares?

  The ban on holidays is about greed and control. Give your money to the WTBTS and stay miserable so we can tell you how happy you are and that you're only happy becuase you're a JW. I can almost see Rutherford now, smokin a stogie, swilling some fine whiskey..."just wait and see what I can get these rubes to do...give up birthdays & holidays...ha ha ha! Just because I told them that Jehoober said so!"

  i have a question about signing the suicide card.

  i'm not sure if my jw has signed the suicide card or not.

  i have not seen it in his wallet.

  Carla,

  I was so mad at my JW when we discussed this whole thing, I said I'd abide by his wishes. I know that if I didn't and he survived, he'd either be pissed at me or (and I doubt this) he'd see the error of his ways, say profuse "Thank You's" for saving his life and we'd ride off into the sunset without the WTBTS burden.

  But seriously, I think that if he's unconscious, you, as his wife, can override his suicide card. That's a guess on my part, but I'm sure unless he had no hope of recovery, the doc's would err on the side of life. Also, I think the idiots nice men on the committee to keep JW's from blood wouldn't even have a say, but again, that's a guess.

  And that's my opinion!

  i saw in the "why is service so lame" thread wtwizard takes the jw's to ephesians 2:8,9. it reminded me of what i would say when they called.

  this was when we first moved and they did not yet know me.

  i would let them say their piece and then i would ask them "why are you here?

  Flimsy Excuses to Miss a Meeting

  we have seen that they are cracking down on skipping boasting sessions.

  i have seen that thread stating the three f's (fever, fracture, funeral) as the only valid excuses for missing one.

  and there are reports that the book study hounder will hound people for missing one.

  I have a good one. Hubby came home last Sunday and made a call to one of his JW friends who had missed that day (apparently, although he doesn't hold office, hubby has taken up hounding as a hobby). As I heard it, the guy had gone to a wedding the night before and had some stuffing that contained shell fish hat he wasn't aware of which made him swell up so he couldn't go AND the SAME EXACT THING happened to his uncle so he had to miss.

  Now, am I overly skeptical or does that sound completely fabricated?

  Lastly I hate what they have done to my jw. They took a good man and made him fearful, arrogant, and certainly not family minded. He must abandon his family if he wants any chance at their ridiculous paradise earth. The more he abandons his family the more credit he gets at the kh. More 'atta' boy's' for him. His arrogance and self righteous judgemental attitude was induced by the cult. Yes, I hate what the jw's do to people and to families. That is why I will continue to anti witness whenever possible.
